Sloppy Steering

The steering on my 124 is very sloppy. i can push the steering wheel forward, left, and right. Is there somthing i can tighten up or get to fix this? And what is a super steer upgrade and would that fix my problem?

Have you checked the 2 mounting bolts?

Take the steering wheel off and put a front wheel bearing in the steering tube, the shaft will slide through the middle and the outside fits perfect in the steering tube. There is originaly a plastic bushing that goes in there!

My method...

I have an eye bolt in the ceiling of garage, with a come-along attached. I mainly use it for removing engines, but it works for steering wheels too.
First, the PB Blaster, and lots of it over a couple days, tapping on the loosened nut as I apply it.
Then I wrap a chain around the base of the steering wheel, attach it to the come-along, and elevate the tractor so that most of the weight is pulling up on the wheel. Whack the loosed nut a few times, and sooner or later it pops loose. I've done three that were on there for 30-40 years this way with no damage to the wheel or threads.

That may not damage the wheel, but that's a great way to wreck the steering column casting. Supporting the tractor by the two bolts in the aluminum steering box casting is not good for it at all. A better way is to get a 5/8 NF bolt and nut, thread the nut halfway on, thread the bolt into it, and then pound on the bolt while pulling up on the wheel with your knees.

I found it even eaisier to do what Matt did but instead of a hammer, I used a air hammer and the thing popped off real quick.
