Always Room for Jello!! And More Weight!!

I have been looking for for a month for wheel weights for my QL 1000, SW Virginia ain't Central PA. No luck finding weights.

Saturday I was putting the sleeve hitch on my "new" 1000 and noticed there is some wasted space between the frame and the fenders.

I went to the shop today (20 miles from the Cub) and noticed I had a "drop" of 3/4" x10" steel bar. I thought , what the heck, that might make a weight.

From my memory and what was left of that drop I cut some weights.

I put the part in the torch and did a quick program to cut two parts out of each drop I had.

The torch moves to the start position and preheats.

After 15 seconds, the oxygen comes on, the torch starts cutting 20 inches per minute.

Attachment 17626

Cutting in the second direction, the parts fall off.

The finished parts ready to drill mounting holes.

Cadplans,
That is a nice cutting machine. I would love to have something like that for heavy fab work. Interested to see how you finish and mount them too.
Regards,
Chris

Three years after I built this machine, I added a plasma torch for 1/4" and thinner parts.

Attachment 17639

The plasma also cuts stainless and aluminum.

The plasma also cuts with 3-4 times faster IPM speeds.

Building this cutting machine was my favorite all time "do it yourself" project.

The edge you show is cut by oxy/acet?

What a nice smooth cut!

Almost, Oxy/propane, that is why it has a cleaner cut.

Nice torch set up

I am a retired boilermaker and was a welder, burner for 35 years. Mostly all free hand burning with some track burner set up. Would like to see you set up, looks interesting.
