PTO switch on a Cub Cadet 1000,1450 etc......

I jumped 12 volts to the PTO clutch on my Cub Cadet 1000 and it works!! Yea!!

The problem is all the wiring associated with it is gone, if I can figure out how it works that will help me decide proper wire sizes and terminals (Info not in the Service Manual).

Is the switch on a Cub Cadet 1000, 1450 etc.. simply a detent on switch?

No relay? I looked at the service manual. I looks like one side of the switch simply energizes the PTO, the other side breaks the start circuit??

Is this the same as on a 1872 or a 1204? I have those for reference if they work the same.

Thanks.

I think the later 82 series on up PTO switches have more terminals because all of the safety switch circuits go through it. The only safety feature of the QL PTO switch is to make sure you can't crank the engine if the switch is on. If you don't care about that capability, you should be able use a normal, good-quality switch that can handle the voltage and current.

And having said that you could probably use the 1872, etc. switch by using the wiring diagram to determine which terminals need to be hooked up to what wires on the harness to get the same functionality as the QL switch had.

14 GA wire would be the correct size to use.

The PTO can be replaced by one of two avenues. IF you are concerned about restoration correctness.....then you will need 925-3022 switch. If not, then any 15A rated DPDT toggle switch will work.
