982 Belt Problem

10 Attachment(s)
My IH 982 deck belt rubs on the mounting fork just before it goes to the main deck pulley....it is a 50"....any suggestions? Note: Should/can I move the mounting "forks" up one hole to move it back so the belt will possibly fit in the curved area of the bracket? Just a thought....

Some pictures of the setup from several different places would help maybe trouble shoot the problem.

Here are some instructions. Make sure the pics are not too large or they won't work.

I use photobucket.com for posting my pics here.

Do you have the correct mule drive? Looks like the lift pins were forward at one point does that change the angle?

Show us some pics of the mule drive from the front and the belt. With that deck the Mule drive pulleys should angle to the right (if you are standing in front of the tractor) to allow the belt to angle properly for the off set center spindle on the deck.

Hi Dwayne,

I posted some more pics and the pulleys do angle to the right....wondering if I move to different mounting holes it may change angle as suggested...

Yep you read my mind. Here are some pics of my 982D with a 50" deck. Move your lift brackets to the middle holes. You can see just a small bit of where my belt rubs every now and then but not much at all, and would probably be if I were in an off camber move with the deck such as going up over a sidewalk at an angle instead of straight.

If this is what I have to expect from painting my tractor RED, then I am keeping the Yellow paint!!:biggrin2:

Hope this fix works for you.
