800 coil

A friend of mine has an 800 thats gone threw 3 coils and gave up on them it has been sitting in a shed for 2 years now, he had the motor rebuilt and put back together by the builder, that's when the coil problem started. He said it would run a little while then the coil would short out. Anyone know what could cause this?

Are they using Kohler Ignition Coils...??? Are they wiring it correctly....??

I will bring those points up to him. Could the voltage regulator have anything to do with it.
