Why are Cub Cadet seats so hard to come by?
2 Attachment(s)
Having trouble getting the proper seats for either of my Cubs, a 147 and an 882.
Images below are what I believe they should look like. I bought one for the 882 off of ePay, and it even had the metal back. Once I got it however, none of the 4,000 holes drilled in the bottom even thought about matching up. I do see the 882's seat on CC Specialties, but am not thrilled with $128 before shipping. I'd like to keep the 147 more OEM looking and get a replacement slip cover for the metal pan, which I believe should look like the low back version shown below. |
and....
...why doesn't anyone make a slip on cover that resembles the originals?
I mean, besides the fact that they haven't been made for decades.. :-) |
:p
Point taken, but these are Cub Cadets and they last forever!!! |
Replacement seats
If your trying to keep it original, I think you'll have a tough time, finding an inexpensive replacement. I got some covers from Coleman's, and even after measuring the exsisting pans and matching to the advertised, there is no way they will fit, decently (I think, because the measurements I took weren't exactly as they did). I ended up finding a decent seat at Farm & Fleet, (with metal pan and holes NOT matching), but a couple pieces of 3/16 or 1/4 steel 2" wide and drilling a couple holes, it fits, looks good and comfy.
The seats you show in the post look good, a trip to Home Depot/or Lowe's should have the steel pieces for a fit?? Good luck, Dick |
I just purchased one for my 1200 from the local IH dealer. It was $75.00 plus tax. Still expensive but bolted on nicely and looks great.

sorry..
Didn't mean that to come out quite so snarky.
I do wonder why there aren't better slip on or lace on covers...they're a consumable after all , and as you note there's LOTs of these things still running around. |
Your 147 should have the original seat that looks like this one.

When I worked at a CNH dealer, we got seats from not only Cub Cadet but also through CNH and K&M. Between the 3, we had a pretty good range of options. I had the same trouble with finding a good "like" replacement for my 80 Hydro and ended up settling for one out of the Northern Tool catalog because it was the closest fit and closest match. It bolted right up without any issues. Finding an exact match sometimes is very hard to comeby.

They all went to hide where the lone socks go during the laundry cycle...
