2072 pto ?

After my 2072 has been cutting grass for 15 min or more if i turn the electric pto off it will not come back on untill the tractor has sat for a while and cooled down. Any one know what the problem is? Thanks.

PTO Adjustment:
Attachment 16426

Possibly having a bearing heating up and wanting to seize. Some other guys in here have had success replacing the bearing.

Brad , didn't you have similar problems earlier on with this ? Dave up in Fallston !!

The elect PTO is a coil. So if you think about a coil breaking down, runs a while, breaks down, cools down then will run again. What sucks is you cant test for spark on a pto when not working. Im shure you could Ohm it out when it stops.

also the pto draws alot of amps. If your batt isnt fully charged it will do that too. I run into alot of that at the shop. People think its a switch all sorts of other stuff and turns out to be a dead cell in the batt.

I would try adjusting it first. My 682 & 782 and one of my Dads 1450's acted that way, and that was the problem.

Thanks for the help guys i will make sure its adjusted properly and go from there. The other problem i had with the pto was not pulling out when turning it off so when i went to start the tractor the motor would not start because the pto was not all the way off. Thanks again.

Uh-ho!! Same symptoms my 1861 had when I got her................

Mine was the bearing.

It was a $10 fix, although the dealer said the bearing couldn't be replaced.:biggrin2:

What he MEAN'T to say was " HE couldn't / didn't want you to replace it " . :biggrin2:

Thats what us machinists and mechanics call fun . :beer2:

(Brad ...............FYI , there was a guy up in Pa with 100s of Cub decks . I ran across his ad but didn't keep it . If you're still looking for those front casters for the Haban , I'll send you the ad next time I see it )

CADplans 10-25-2011 04:26 PM

I wouldn't have replaced the bearing if it wasn't fun!!:biggrin2:

Also the 1861 keeps my son-in-laws' OFF-MY-1872!!

Xtreme also has the front casters for the Haban decks.
