Qa42a Belt Tensioner
 

I just picked up a qa42a but it is missing the belt tensioner. The bracket is there, just not the bolt, washer, swivel etc. Does anyone have a lead on this setup or can I make my own? Thanks for the help!

I do have some parts I am planning on listing on Ebay. Take a look at page six in the Operators Manual and let me know what you need. I'll see if I have it.

As luck would have it the CC parts fiche is out of service so I will try to make as much sense with my description as I can.

From your post it appears that you need the adjusting screw, nuts, washer, and the round piece that fits in the upper slot of the lever. (triagular shaped plate)

These parts I do not have, but should be easily be fabricated by someone with a lathe and some hardware store items. I could make this for you when I return home in early Nov. if you still haven't aquired the parts.

For anyone that wants to make the tensioner, note that the threads on the bolt and nut are left-hand threads.

Left hand/right hand... It wouldn't matter if you're making both pieces. Just backwards.

I suspect it is that way for a reason...if it really didn't matter, they would have made it right-hand at the factory.

If you think of it as "righty tighty/ lefty loosey... then yes, it would make sense that turning the adjustment clockwise will move the pulley downward tightening the belt. This is why we bought Cubs because their engineers put enough thought into this design.
It may be a bit aggrevating adjusting ones mind set to think "lefty tighty" but the physical laws of simple machines remain constant.

Could I make one with LH threads? Yes. But the cost of tooling for a one-off piece would be not cost effective. The purist will surely shun me for this. LOL

BTW: I like your split brake design. Mind if I steal it?
