AGS Transmission Compatiblity

I have a '95-'97 Cub AGS 2130 with transmission problems (suprise-suprise). I have found a complete transmission out of a AGS 2160. Does anyone know if these transmissions are compatible?

I am particularly concerned about the AGS/Hydrostatic unit bolting up. Did all the 2100 series tractors use the same AGS unit and transmission unit?

Just a quick background, the problem is that the tractor will not go forward. This has been a progressive problem starting with trouble going uphill in 3rd and 4th, till only 1st gear worked in forward, and now nothing. Reverse works fine in all gears. The AGS/hydrostatic unit was rebuilt and clutches were replaced. I have found forums that have said that the shift key inside of the gear set wears and so do the key slots in the gears. As they wear and round-off, no-more go forward. These gears run about $50 a piece and I don't know what else I may find wrong, so I want to swap the transmission, and then work on rebuilding the stock one at my leisure. Thanks for the help and insight.

I'm not a pro here but occassionally find a bright spot and can sound somewhat intelligible. Checking the parts breakdowns of both tractors, as they are both included in the same serial number system, it appears there is a serial number break but not too sure how big of a difference it makes.

s/n: 239,000-326,005 shows as part #618-3059
s/n: 326,006-389,000 shows as part #618-3059A

I am not sure the difference between the 2 units but I would assume there would not be much, but I could certainly be wrong. I am guarentee there are some better educated members here that would be able to tell you for sure.

I think the differences are engine and electrical; I would see no reason why you couldn't change the rears.

FYI, don't ride the pedals like you would a hydrostatic trans...that's probably why the original rear is messed up in the first place.

Like matt said dont ride the pettals! We have a brand new one at the shop from the last time I worked up there that the customer never picked up. Im taking it to the show in a few weeks to sell. I wish you were close Id pull the trans and sell it to ya.

The 2130 is really not a hydro. It has gears, well a series of clutches. The big mistake people make is the fact that they think its a hydro. They put it in 6th and push the petal as far as they want to to meet the speed they need. When in truth you need to match the gear to the speed you want.

If you want to mow at a certian speed, and it happens to be as fast as 4th with your foot all the way down, then this is what gear you need to be using, not 6th and feathering the petal. All your doing is slipping the clutch disks. Its a costly job to do and I have anothe 2130 here in the yard that needs to go to Raleigh.

Good luck with it let us know how you make out with it.

Yo vinny, read a few posts somewhere, that said, U could do a trick with washers on the disk, when U sufford the nogo fo, but can back. U added a washer a certian thickness to one side of the disk, moving the worn side to make contact agin. thanks Daduke of
