Rebuild Magnum engine in 1862?

My magnum 18 engine in my Cub has a hole in the side of the engine I love the and miss the tractor, even more so after buying a Lowes JD to keep me mowing.

Early this year the motor started blowing oil, if found the govenor shaft was missing. I ordered a new one from the dealer, re installed and noticed the engine was no longer governed. I continued to mow using low throttle, with plans to tear into the engine this winter and fix the govenor. What I did not know is pieces of the govenor were in the bottom of the engine, one eventually got between the crank case and the crank and blew a hole in the engine case. Engine still runs, no knocking. I found a guy that can repair the case, however all threads about rebuilding this engine seem to come to a dead end or have dead links.

Can someone please direct me to a thread of a rebuild of this engine?

Or a site where I can get the parts to rebuild?

I found a dead link with the governor problems these engines are known for, any one have more info on that?

Tractor has only 700 hrs. I have no interest in retro fitting a newer style engine, I want to rebuild what I have.

Really miss the power steering, and the amazing cut of this tractor

I believe there is a service manual available that shows you the things you need to do. But i do remember reading a few threads about the M18 rebuilds.

Have Welder pay attention to negate case warpage while tig welding. BTDT.
You just missed a complete engine on Evilpay go for $.99 with a bad rod but good case in Pennsylvania.

This guy welds cases for dirt bikes and snowmobiles, pretty well known in the area. Hoping he knows what he is doing, worth a shot for $50

Wow, I have been searching for months but I guess I missed that one. Finding a horizontal engine in general is hard enough.
