LT 1045
I'm replacing my 20 hp Kohler motor on my mower. The question that I have is I'm ready to remove the PTO, clutch and the drive pulley, is there anything special I need to do before taking these parts off the motor shaft? I then understand that there are 4 bolts holding on he engine. Any thing else I need to pay any attention to?
Any help would be welcomed |
Your PTO should be the same as my 1042's There is only 1 14 or 15 mm headed bolt in the center that needs removed. You will have to remove the U shaped belt guard before it comes off. I would use an impact on it as it will want to spin. In the center of the pulley there is a spacer that the bolt goes through You can use an adjustable wrench to hold it still if you use a regular ratchet. It should just slip off the crankshaft. You may have to spray blaster or whatever on it and tap it...Pretty straight forward.

Thank you for the information on the PTO spindle. Above the PTO spindle it looks like there is a clutch and then above that it looks like another spindle. I'm guessing it should be the same taking them off. Would you know will I have any issues removing the clutch off the shaft?
I'm hoping after removing the spindles I will be able to remove the bolts for the engine and take that off. Thanks for you help |
When I do them, most times its the drive belt replacment, that smaller pully can be a bear to get off at times. One thing I do at the shop, is use antiseze on the crank going back on. That way when you need to put another drive belt on the pto and pully come off easier.
