Push Project!

Well since we don't have an area for this I put it here. This is the push mower that we've been using at our hunting camp since the 70's my dad said. My great uncle bought it new and used it at home a couple years and then took it to camp and left it there. We were up there this weekend and I decided to bring it home and give it a face lift and some much needed TLC. She runs like a top, starts first or second pull everytime. I had our brand new Cub push mower there to and this little bugger with it's 3hp briggs ran circles around it. If anyone on here has any info. on these push mowers could they help me out. I'd like to figure out the year, and anything else's about it would be great. It does have the serial tag on it with the number's. The number's are model 3340 and serial number 0330040UP14519. Thanks in advance.

I'm not aware of any infomation on push mowers. Odds are there is some out there. The motor should have a Model, Type and Code numbers on the opposite side of the air cleaner on the fan shroud. You can go to Briggs and Stratton web site to find out when the motor was built. That will give you the time frame when the mower was built.

Eric that's awesome that it's been in use by your family for so long.

In pretty good shape for its age. I like the IH decal still in place, goes to show you the QUALITY some of the small things were back then - too bad those days are gone!

 Thanks for sharing, wish you luck in search for info and any resto/tune ups you do. :beerchug:

That sounds about right Lew, dad thought he bought it in 78 but he couldn't remember. I did find the numbers on the motor and I'll look into them later. I'm going to call my uncle and see if he can remember more about it. I'll let you guys know.

Well the number's on the motor make it an 80. And my uncle said he remember's when my great uncle bought it. He said the summer of 80. The date's on the motor say the motor was built Feb. 4th 1980. I cleaned it up some today, looks better. I found the grass screen for the fly wheel and a new oil cap/dip stick, there on the way. And I found a set of NOS front wheels, they'll be here tomorrow. I think I'm gonna tear it down and repaint it. There's is a crack in the deck where you put your foot to start it, I'll get that welded up while I'm at it. I'm tring to find the decal for the top of the briggs, anybody know where I can find one, I looked all over the net with no avail. I find picture's but no decals. The decals on the mower itself are the same as the GT deck decals, so those I have. The only thing I can't find for the mower decals is the decals on the discharge Shoot. But there in very good condition and I'll just mask them off for paint. As you can see there's not much crome left on the push bar, I think I'll just prep it for paint and paint it. What do you guys think, would it look better white or black?
