chewing up my belt

Hey Guys:

I have a Cub Cadet 100 that I mowed my 1 acre lawn with the first time great. The second time I did, the belt kept coming off. The belt was very worn and cracked so I replaced it. Well I tried to mow again and the cut was very uneven and it got about half way through, when the new belt let loose and was all chewed up. Please help

Thanks

Paul:

There can be a couple of reasons why the new belt let loose. (A), was the belt the correct IH recommended belt? (B) Are there any pulley issues (cracked, worn, or bad bearings)? (C) Are pulleys and belt have the proper alignment? (D) Do you have the proper belt tension? and finally, (E) are the deck spindle bearings in good shape?

These are some things to check...!!

The mower deck on my 73 was chewing up belts on me, and it turned out that there was significant rust build-up in the groove of the pulleys. I cleaned it up with a wire brush and haven't had any issues since...just another thought. Good luck with it. Jason
