14.4 volts?

Does this sound acceptable at wide open throttle?

Put a volt meter across the bat. 12.5 volts not running and again at full throttle and get 14.4 volts is this within range?

Thanks
John

I do believe you are over charging. You should have @ 13.7 or a bit less at the battery at Full throttle. I am assuming this is for a model 86 cub?

Edit: After looking at some info you may be in range. 13.5 to 14.7 volts is acceptable range on the Solid state charging system which yours does not have, but would think the range should be the same for the older system too.

Let's see what some of the others have to say..

I also would say you are in the ballpark with those voltages.
If you check your car or truck, you will see about the same voltages.

I was getting 14.6 on my 1250 and had some wetness around the battery water caps.I got another voltage regulator from a buddy and that put the voltage down to 14.2. Seems like it's not cooking the water out of the battery now.
