I am in the middle of rebuilding my 149 and have a 129 in the waiting room. I found a CL ad for some parts tractors, went and looked at them and brought them home, I bought 2 1250's and a 1650. I was needing some parts, was wanting automatic hydro release valves, the tunnel cover without the hole for the manual release valves, and an 82 series style steering wheel with IH center cap. These tractors had all these parts, none have motors and they are in pretty rough shape, but I got them bought for less than the parts I need would have cost me separately. Anyhow, I have a couple questions about using some other parts from these tractors.

Question 1: I was looking at the drive shafts from these tractors, and liked how they don't have the stupid and expensive drive cup at the engine, I am assuming these are not a direct bolt in replacement for the 1X9 tractors, but was wondering if anyone knew what it would take to use this set up in my tractors?

Question 2: Drive shaft question part 2, what is the ball bearing for in the rear coupler, just a spacer? And is there supposed to be one at the engine end of the coupler? And finally, how many flex couplers are used? I got 2 drive shafts, one has one on each end, the other has 2 on one end and one on the other. (yeah, I know, this turned into a 3 part question...sorry, I kept thinking of more stuff to ask)

Question 3: The 129 I have does not have the hydraulic lift on it, the 1650 has all those parts as well as the ported hydro pump. I don't see many differences between the 1650 and the 149, except for the placement of the spool valve, and how the actuating rod attaches to it. It appears by the naked eye, that the actuating rod is mounted in the same place in the dash tower. Does anyone know if I can use the 1650 parts to change the 129 over to hydraulic lift?

Question 4: This is just about the differences in the 3 parts tractors. The 1250 that has the 82 series steering wheel, has the automatic release hydro valves, has the heavier 1" front spindles, and has internal brakes. I am figuring this must be the newer of the 3 having those differences, does this sound right? I guess I need to clean up the grime and paint overspray and get the serial numbers off of them.

Congrats on your parts tractors. The later QL had the 82 style steering wheels on them. My 1650 has that style but my 1200 does not.

I'm not sure on your drive shaft questions so going to pass on those.:biggrin2:

1. Simply make a new driveshaft that is the proper length, if that one doesn't happen to be.

2. There is a spherical ball bushing on either end of the driveshaft, one in each coupler. Some came with one flex disc on each end, but later ones had two on each end. Two is better.

3. Yes, you can.

4. Yes, at some point in the QL series they switched to all of those parts.

The only difference between the 2 lifts are the metal line to valve and the valve mounting plate. And maybe the handle for valve. But pump, valve, rubber hoses and cylinder are the same.

I guess I need to go stand in the corner until I learn better!

Forgot to mention it, but look at the 3rd 1650 pic, at some point a PO made a foot control for the hydro...it looks like it works pretty well, well for being homemade!
