Finally found my 147: Pics

I've been on the 147 lookout for quite awhile, they just don't come up too often around here. After narrowly missing one a few months back, I finally beat the rest of the craigslisters to the punch. Spotted it a few hours after it went up and picked it up 7:30 am next morning.

The seller claims he had it running last Saturday and that the engine runs quiet and smokeless. Says hydro is "strong." We will see.

The good:

Hydro lever stiff but moves
Everything in place to attempt a startup
Dash not cracked
No real deep pitted rust on hood or rest of sheetmetal
Headlight panel is good
Engine turns, there is some compression

The bad:
I spotted a Fram oil filter down on the trans :bash2:
Needs tires, seat and steering wheel
Grill insert missing (don't know what style to look for)
Electric lift actuator/motor completely gone (any ideas on replacements?)
PTO frozen to the pully
Fender pan will take quite a few love taps to get back to original

Depending on how the engine and hydro behave, this might be a good restoration base. I'm glad to finally join you guys in the International Harvester club.

Wow, you are getting quite the GT collection there! :beerchug: That looks great, I think you definitely need to restore that one, looks like a perfect candidate. Maybe you and 500 can compete on youtube for who can get their new projects done first? :biggrin2:

Lol Dusty.

500 is the man, and a big reason I got into restoring old tractors. I need to check my subscriptions and see if I missed anything on his latest project. I've already been back to look at his old 129 series since this one's PTO is shot.

I'm just on the verge of completing the Sears Suburban, so then I have to make a choice of restoring either the 882 or 147.

Coin toss I guess.

:D

Nice 147! I have really grown to like the hoods on the 1x7s.

TheSaturnV 07-23-2011 07:29 AM

Yep, the 1x7's are quirky little machines. It's the grill piece that grabs me. The first Cub I really wanted was a 1x9, but I had to settle for an 882 as my first.

:D

Once I had it, I realized the shark-nose design is quite similar to the 1x9's, at which point I began to give these narrow frames another look. Glad I did. I'm done actively scouting for Cubs. I'll restore what I've got and use/enjoy them alongside the old Suburban. Of course once you stop really looking, then these machines come out of the woodwork, calling your name.....

:p

BTW, it took me a full day and a half to find the headlight switch!

That is a nice 147.Looks like it has a nice seat!!
Congrats.
