CC 149 Question
 

I have one 149 currently under going a restoration. I have stumbled upon another one for sale locally. I was under the assumption that all 149's had hydro lifts, but the one I have option to buy does not. So my question is, did IH make manual lift 149's, or is the one I am going to look at not actually a 149, perhaps a 129 or 169 that has been repowered with a K321? Question 2, if they did make a manual lift 149, would it have a non ported hydro pump on it? I have yet to see it in person, going to look at it in the morning (I will take a some tools with me, pull the tunnel cover off and snoop around inside there a bit), but thought I should research this a bit before I get there and the money burns a hole in my pocket! Thanks for the help!

I have seen pics of it, I believe it is newer than the one I currently have, mine was made in March of 72, it came with a 48" deck with 2 separate spindle covers. The one I am looking at buying has a 44" deck with one piece spindle covers, I believe the later model 149's came equipped that way, the owner was not able to provide me with the serial number.

I guess I too have fallen victim to "yellow fever", this crap isn't fatal is it?

Something doesn't seem right. Maybe the cowl was replaced on a 129 with a 149 or something, because I think the 149 should have the hydraulic lift on it. Someone may have converted it over and changed the rearends out. Before you go, print out a copy of the serial numbers and check it on the rearend of the tractor plate.

You can also check the engine tag or decal on top of the shroud if it still has it to see if it is a 12 hp or 14 hp engine. I don't think it could hurt to have a spare tractor on hand for parts as needed especially if you are doing a restoration of a 149. Best of luck!!

I might be wrong but I remember reading that there was a shortage of the hydraulic lifts during the production run. I'll see what I can dig up later tonight.

I know the last few thousand 149's and 169's did not come with hydraulic lift because IH ran out of valves for the hydraulic lift. Manual or electric lift was installed and the price adjusted accordingly. The owners of those tractors could bring them back to the dealer when parts were available, and only paid half price on labor and parts if I am correct. So a late model 149 or 169 COULD have manual lift.

Okay, so it is either fake or somewhat rare...if IH ran out of lifts and/ or lift valves, then customers who bought them could have them converted to hydraulic lift, then do you suppose that it would indeed have the ported pump? I guess they could have came with the ported pumps, I am not sure how that part functions, maybe they are capped or looped under the tunnel cover...not sure which way they would have had to do it. I would think that would be the case if they actually offered the upgrade, if you had to buy the pump as well as all the rest of the necessary parts to convert it over, I doubt anyone could have afforded to have it done.

Have the guy send you the complete Serial number and I can tell you what model it is... Yes they came with ported pumps because as with the 169's there was the option to later buy the hydraulic lift and install it in the field or meaning at the dealer or at home.

Dwayne, you have a chart that indicates what model they are by serial number alone? You need to share with the rest if us, quite hold out on us! LOL! I probably just go ahead and go look at it anyhow, the guy that has it didn't seem to know much about it...I acted dumb (or some might say I come by that naturally) about them too. I already got him to cut the price and have yet to see it in person yet.
