IH 108 PTO problems

Guys,

I just replaced the PTO thrust button and the PTO button and after I put it back together my PTO never disengages no matter how tight I adjust it. What else might be causing this problem?

did you rebuild the clutch as well? sounds like the clutch itself it out of adjustment.

I agree. In fact, I just had this exact problem, with a minor difference. What I ended up finding was that I had the clutch adjusted too tight, which caused the front spring to be bent in too much, so far that it actually contacted the inner race of the bearing that it rides on. The inner race is pressed on to the crankshaft of the engine, so when the spring grabbed on to the race, it spun the whole pulley.

Now, the difference is that the previous owner installed the wrong spring for this type of PTO, but I'm guessing that yours is at least adjusted too tight.

Did you use the adjustment gauge to set the clutch?

When I rebuilt the PTO on my 122, I put the clutch spring on backwards. It never adjusted quite right, and I could never get the fingers to stay in the groove on the PTO button. I had to adjust it down really tight and then it always wanted to run. I failed to realize this until I was working on the engine on my 107. Always pays to have pairs I guess ;-).

You might check your spring and make sure its on the proper direction. Apparently its not hard to get this confused.

Thanks guys for your input. No I didn't have an adjustment gauge to tighten up the three bolts on the clutch. I'm thinking I may have the clutch to tight.

IM sending the adjustment tool to Justin in the morning, couldnt find a post office that I could get the truck into this week where I was. If you can hold off maybe when Justin is done with them, he can send them to you so you can use them. All I ask is that they make it back to me, they are my last ones that I have.

YOu guys work it out and as they say keep me in the loop, not the poop, of where they are at.

You are a gentleman and a scholar, my friend. Thank you Vince!

Well Justin if you ask some people like Allen C, Oak, Duke, Earl, Dave G, and a host of others, they may agree with you on the gentelman, but if you read my posts and how many words are misspelled, the scholer part is way out ! :ScrewLoose::ROTF2::ScrewLoose::ROTF2::ScrewLoose: :ROTF2::ExtremeFunny:
