1650 apart

hi all,

I descided to tear apart my beloved 1650 to rebuild the engine. Rather it needs it or not doesnt really matter to me right now. I just wanted to get it started and see what needs to be fixed or replaced.

I may place an ad in the local paper for wanted help with it. I'm good at taking things apart and putting them back together. Not so much figuring out the problem areas and rebuilding the engine(if its needed).

Here are some pictures: if anyone sees anything ot of the norm or problems let me know. Thanks! :)

I did find one problem all on my own and that was the muffler was busted off at the joint with the manifold.

Do you have a local Carquest or other auto parts store with a shop?

I took my K301 from my 124 to a local Carquest to have them check it out, and hone the bore.

Nice start on your 1650! Everything looks pretty clean, doesn't look to have too much oil on the block/frame.

To add to Bill's advice, I'd also suggest heading over to Kohler's website and downloading the service manual for the engine. It'll have the most current and up-to-date overhaul info in it.

Your muffler box is broken right where I figured it would be. I can see a bolt in there for the muffler support that doesn't look right, and light around a jagged hole where the mounting boss used to be.
