Hi Guys,

welcome back at the new Forum.

Yesterday, I removed the Cylinder from my not good running KT-17, and I see a big bad Surprise, and now, I have a very big Problem.

At least you do not a hole in your crankcase.

This is not that big of a problem. I had a similar problem with mine

Looks like at the least.....
(2) new Pistons/w rings
(2) new Connecting Rods
(1) Gasket set

That crank should polish up. I can't tell from the pictures if there are gouges or not. It can always be ground down .010 inches.

Be sure to look on the crankcase half opposite the cylinder that had the broken rod for damage...Usually, a piece of the rod puts a hole in the block in that area...you are extremely lucky if it didn't.

That don't look too good on that engine , but I know you will get it back running soon.

Took me awhile to realize by clicking on the pictures that I can see bigger ones.

I wouldn't put a penny let alone a euro into that engine. They were junk to begin with. That's why you see so many 782 hulls for sale on ebay. Find a nice twin to replace it. Vanguard or something. These engine were fine as long as the tractor was being used on the level, since it only has a splash oil system. Get one cylinder on the uphill side and oil starvation. Good luck !! Glad to see one old Cub made it to Europe.

If I remember correctly from his thread on the old forum, it's a series II, and therefore worth saving if possible. I think he said it had more than 3000 hours on it. It's still a lot cheaper to fix up a series II than to get a brand new motor of any brand. You can get new pistons and rods, and there are a lot of good, used cylinders around that can be bored oversize.
