My "new" 73

I've gave a few glimpses, but here's a few glamor shots of my new 73. Went up to Teet's over the holiday and brought it back home. Would have also brought back a little 90cc 4-wheeler if it was up to one of my side kicks.

I unloaded the 73 and went straight to mowing the yard (got those pics in another thread). Very sweet experience. I know this is just #3, but it's nice to be able to get on a tractor and just "use it". Not have to replace anything, rebuild anything, whatever. :) I love that 38" cast end deck too. Looks like it gives a really uniform cut. Jeff had taken really good care of it, hopefully I can keep it up!!

WOW, it does look good out in the sunshine. Any plans for it, or just going to keep it as a great yard mower? And, yes it is nice to be able to pick up something from a member here and know all you have to do is get on and go. No fixing or repairing.

I'm thinking about putting the Haban on it for a while, just for giggles, maybe for good. Jeff was talking about the paint and stuff, but he's done a lot to get it looking as good as it does. I've been throwing stuff around in my mind ever since I found out I was getting it. I was really impressed with the power of that 7HP. Probably the only near future thing may be getting the head gasket replaced. I think Jeff said something about one day needing new rings, but that's waaaay more than anything I've done before. I'd like to get the deck painted up so if I do put the Haban on the 73 I'd put the 38" on the 127.

If I could find another set of Firestone town and country 6-12s I'd put duals on the back.

Great looking 73, Gary! :beerchug:

Gary,
Nice 73! I think your Haban would look great on it. It is always nice to buy a cub, hop on and go. Now you need to find some roundy fenders. Bet Jude has some in the motherlode. :beerchug:

BTW, Nice Avalanche in the background. I used to own an '04 and loved it, except for the leaking rear gate. :bash2:

gcbailey 05-31-2011 04:21 PM

thanks Josh, the Avy is an '04 with 86K. No major issues just the normal. I'd buy another, but my next truck has got to be at least 3/4 ton. I'm starting to pull my trailer quite a bit and WV hills are murder on brakes.

My goal as much as I hate to say it is to retire my GT2544 early. It's only 2 years old, but it's got 180 hours and I've done a LOT to it. I'd like to go straight IH for all my needs. :)

She looks great Gary, I'm glad your pleased with it! I wish my newer 50" deck cut as nice as that little cast end beauty :) If your thinking about rebuilding that k-161 down the road, give me a call, I have some good info for you. I think if you take care of her, and give her plenty of seat time, she'll treat you just fine....and ..YES..get that haban mounted up, I'm sure I'm not the only one that wants to see it earning its keep on the 73 :biggrin2:

Yeah, these Kohlers are pretty easy to work on, including the insides. Don't feel too overwhelmed by trying to rebuild or refresh that 73 engine.

Sweet pics of the 73 Gary!

Congrats on the 73 Gary!
It is a beauty!
