K301 Overhaul
Ok Guys don't beat me up too bad here lol.I just finished an overhaul on my K301 for my 122 cub.I did it on the cheap I rehoned the cylinder which was in really good condition to start with replaced the rings and new connecting rod.Put everything back together and it runs great no smoke or knocks. Now I know you always run a risk not doing a complete rebuild but for now it seems to be doing great.I'm just hopeing this will last till I can scrape up some money for a total rebuild.

60 lashes with a wet noodle!
I Don’t see anything wrong with what you did, if you did things correctly you can expect at least another 30 minutes out of it-- er 30 years. Seriously, it is better than it was, no question and you can feel proud you accomplished something!! Enjoy it. |
You did exactly what my local cub dealer said they used to do. If all looked good, hone it, new rings and a rod. He said there are still motors out there running that they did like that back in the early 90's. You may not have to do a complete rebuild.

Thanks Ol'George and DX3 I checked everything according to the Kohler manual and the cylinder walls and the crank journal all were within speck I also checked the end ring gap it was all to speck and everything else looked good....the cam lobes, crankshaft end play so I figured it should be ok.It runs great now but time will tell if I missed anything or not.
