1450 trade for a 682
A friend of mine has wanted my 1450 since I purchased it a couple of years ago.
He has offered me a 682 for it. I have a couple of questions. It is old enough that the rearend can handle the tiller. Is that swap over difficult? How hard is tilling with manual lift versus the hydraulic on the 1450? How about manual lift for a snow blower? How hard is it these days to find a mule drive and mower deck for a 1450? He wants one, but will purchase it himslelf, as there is no deck with the 682. I already have a 782, but it is a CCC model. He knows how bad I want another red one again, so I may do this trade. Thanks! |
Find him another 1450...manually lifting a tiller is not something I would want to do on a regular basis.

I would not take that trade myself. It doesn't sound like you are getting anything out of it, other than a red paint job.

You could put a lift assist spring on the 682 which will help out or you could add hydraulics too.

Boy thats a hard trade to think about. I'm not much of a quietline guy. I only have one, an 800. I have my tiller on the 149 and the hydro lift is nice with the tiller. I've never had a spring assist, but from what I've heard, they work great and you hardly know anything is on the back. You could add the spring assist to the 682 and go. You also could get a ported pump and add hydraulics to the 682 and basically have a 782. I have two red ones and love em. I also have the yeller and white ones and love em too. :biggrin2: Really depends on what you want to do. (Guess I wasn't much help:beerchug:) Good luck and let up know what you decide.

As much as I love my red 782 I don't think I could part with the 1450 with hydraulics to trade for a red 682 with manual lift. Hmmmm Maybe paint the 1450 red ? :bigthink: :biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2:

Thanks for the advice.
The manual lift makes this a no deal for me, as I get the message about lifting the tiller. So, that trade won't happen. But, he really wants my 1450, and owns a red 782 that used to be mine. I traded it to him for a different 782 when the block cracked on the old one. He is offering my old tractor as a trade for the 1450. The decisions is hard! I'll be going home to test drive my old tractor again, with the replacement engine, and to make sure the swap over of the tiller can happen easily. Thanks for the advice! |
The tiller swap over should work. The 782 will need a sleeve hitch unless it already has one. The gearbox will bolt on the back, especially if it's IH built. The only difference will be the size of the pulleys. They will be 5/8" instead of 1/2". All you would have to do is replace the bottom pulley on the angle gearbox. Keep us posted and of course :WWP:.

What's the serial number of the 782?
