been doing a lot of work down the street

he is paying me cash or parts to repair the stuff down the road. i enjoy getting the chance to work on different IH cub cadets but then i still have to repair junk. yesterday i did a transaxle swap on a 1998 sears crapsman lawn tractor. cheap little briggs OHV engine. i also got another on those machines running that wasnt running. let me tell you they are put together like utter trash. i dont think i have ever seen something put together so poorly. the frame is very thin and the brackets are all so cheap you can bend them with your bare hands. its amazing that they work at all, they are so cheap. it really makes you appreciate, a much higher quality machine like a IH cub cadet. i dont like working on the newer stuff, but it will all pay for my bills/parts the same. im still working my regular full time job and i probably work for this gentlemen about 15-20 hours a week.

by the way he says im well on my way to earning the tractor on the hill with tiller, 3pt hitch, and creeper gear. i will sell the creeper gear, i plan on putting the tiller on my 147. the tractor is rough but the parts are still worth $$. having a tiller that i dont have to shell out a couple hundred bucks for is a sweet deal.

You've been very busy!

keep up the good work! Also don't get bummed out too much having to work on the cheaper made newer stuff. They have a place in the world too, for those who don't care about the good stuff like we do.

Sounds like you have put yourself into a good position to be able to get the things you want and need. And remember, the cheaper stuff is getting you the cool hard to find things we all want for our cubs... Keep up the good work. :beerchug:

It's amazing how most of the new tractors are made..... even the new Cubs, unfortunately. I'll keep my 123, thank you very much!

the new ones suck. the old cubs don't need the choke on in the 70-90 degrees weather. my grandfather has a 09 cub. the thing has to have the choke on in 70-90 degree weather. thats STUPID.!!!!!!!!!:banned::angry:

i find my cub needs the choke only on the first start of the day, regardless of outdoor temp. once it has been started once, no choke required. just touch that key and the kohler k just roars to life. even in sub zero temps in the winter, once it has had its initial start, instant light-offs are just a key touch away. when cold, if choke is used, it starts instantly. my neighbor has a newer cheap cub cadet and seems to think the world of it. i cant wait until it starts falling apart and i can go to him and tell him "i told you so", that the POS will fall apart. he doesn't seems to appreciate the quality and strength behind the old stuff that is made better. i have a strong dislike for the newer stuff, i call it the walmart syndrome. everyone wants something now, cheap, and shiny.

the really funny part about my neighbors piece of crap, he got it stuck on the hill on the side of his yard. i came over laughing. i told him i will rescue his mtd piece of crap. i took the IH 147 and yanked him out. the 147 did even know that piece of junk was behind it.

to think, my neighbor calls my 147 an old piece of junk. im laughing at the stupidity. he can have his glorified mtd lawn tractor. he might as well just went down to tractor supply and bought the $800 huskey lawn tractor, they are built the same way.

people dont seem to understand that the IH built machines and even the early mtd built machines are real tractors. most of the new ones are lawnmowers, nothing more nothing less

ad356 05-25-2011 01:04 AM

one thing that really annoys me about mtd, they slap the cub cadet name on everything. cheap weedwackers, throw away lawnmowers, gator-like atv things, zero turns. most people dont even know what cub cadet really means. IH had a smaller farm tractor called the "cub". they built a garden tractor for use in the yard using an transaxle out of the cub farm tractor, and cub cadet was born. the cub was the larger tractor and the cadet was the smaller tractor. the name had meaning, now it means nothing

Your 147 will still be around a long time, after his mower is gone.

This is a bit OT, but where in Java is this guy? I'm not far away in Springville. I'm always interested in who has machines and parts!
