trunion repair
I continued a thread in the CCC with with problem, but, no response yet. I will try this section too do to having more viewers.
This is on a 109. my trunion bracket looks like zelda's. Except, both corners are worn so bad from the spring end caps they are super close to going right threw the little metal that is left. 1. What will happen if this problem is not repaired and the end caps go threw the metal? 2. When the trunion bracket is repaired, can I reuse the springs and end caps? Thanks for the help again. |
If the end cap goes through the metal, the springs and end caps will probably fall and you would be out of control. So i would definitely be repairing this.
If nothing else just a little weld in the corners where it is worn the worst. I have reused the springs and end caps if everything still looked half decent. Just my :TwoCents: |
Somthin to look at.
http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=4635 1. You will lose control and prob get hurt or hurt some one else. Best to fix prob now. 2. If the stuff don't look worn out you can use it again, but odds are they show wear. If you got it all apart replace it , then you don't have to take it apart again later. You can weld key stock on to square it up again. there is a section around here that shows this proses , but I can't seem to find it right now. Just my :TwoCents: |
Here is a link that will show you exactly what to do and how.
http://cubfaq.com/trunionrepair.html You absolutely have to fix it or it will take of wide open and you will not be able to stop it without shutting off the engine. Another important thing is to use NEW snap rings, do not reuse the old ones as they get weak and can come off causing the same problem as mentioned. And make sure the grooves that the snap rings fit in are perfectly clean so the ring can seat good. |
The springs are cheap and the small one in the middle will be worn. I just did this to my 109, the springs in mine were the same length, when I put the new ones together with new end caps the center spring is longer than the big outer one is. The old ones were worn and the same length so if I was in there I would always spend the $10 to get it new.
