1964 IH Cub 100
I have a 1964 Cub with engine K241 AS. It has been in the shed for the last 10 years and I am trying to get it back in running order. I have the engine turning over without any issue, but there appears to be no spark. I have check ed the Coil and that appears to test OK. The question I have is what should I expect out of the Voltage regulator. Right now there is 13 volts until I crank the tractor and that voltage drops to 8.7 volts. I am thinking i might need to replace the battery, but don't want to spend money if that is not going to help. :bigthink:
Does anyone know what I should expect to the BAT side of the Voltage Regulator ( I am thinking at least 12v) and what i should expect out of the voltage regulator to the coil. |

Have you cleaned the contacts between the points? As far as batteries I get the autozone lawn and garden one with 425cca and love them! :WWP: |
Yes I have cleaned and gapped the points, but I have not replaced the condenser yet. I was going to try that tomorrow. As for the Battery thanks for the tip I may just buy one anyway because I need one if I am going to get this running again.

check and clean your ground for the coil if you have not already. I just read today that you can take the condenser out of the circuit temporarily for testing purposes. Try that and see if it gets spark if you suspect yours is bad.

Make sure you have power to the coil. Sometimes the key switches loose contact after sitting for a while. I wouldn't worry about the regulator at this point. That shouldn't have affect the spark. The tractor should still run without a regulator. Just not recommended.

Thanks for all this info. I will try to take the condenser out of the picture and try to start it. I also think it may be the battery because the voltage to the coil drops to 8 -9 volts whan I crank it with the jumper.

I would also check the spark plug wire and the wire going to the points.it may be grounding out on the frame.
Pictures of your 100 cause we like pictures. And :Welcome2::WWP: |
Ok I have tested everything I can think of:
Coil ohm test is correct New Battery cranking well and proving 12 volts to the points and coil Disconnected the condenser for testing purposes New Spark plug Getting fuel But no spark, does anyone have any other ideas before I spend the money for a new coil to eliminate that? |
Pictures will come as soon as I get the tractor out of the Shed. How much do these tractors go for if they are running. I have had it since 1974 with all the attachments.
