1512 Glo-Plug Indicator Light

Guys, I wonder, if there's a way to make a light to make it easier for me to see, when starting the 1512 using the glo-plugs? I can't see the wire that lights up very well. :beerchug:

That "glow-light" is just a fake timer for you,,
wire in a regular bulb, then start counting,, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc,,,,
Counting will do the same thing as waiting for the wire to glow,,

You might have to count a little higher when it is real cold outside,,,:bigthink:

I have two diesels with some sort of heater, and I have never used either,,
both start like gasoline engines, crank the starter and they run,, even at Virginia sub-freezing temps,,,
(Virginia sub-freezing temps are seldom below 30 degrees,,, LOL!!)

Do you really need the glow plugs to start?

Thanks Cad, I don't need them to start it now, but I'm sure I will this Winter.

Allen, there are a couple options you can install for the glow plug indicator. Wiring in a bulb as suggested is a good solution. I will send you a PM with my phone number and I can explain the current glow plug indicator, it's wiring, and what the best way to install a small light would be. I used a small amber LED on mine. It's bright enough to see in the sunshine. Your indicator you have now is nothing more than a wire that begins to glow dull red then brighter and brighter turning more yellow the longer you hold the switch in the glow position. Yes, it's hard to see and why, among other things, that many of us have changed the wiring and installed a bulb or LED.

I really appreciate it, Stan! :beerchug:

A/C, that is pretty involved to change the indicator. You could just put an LED wired to one of the GP's but they don't get 12 volts and a light isn't really needed. There should be a decal up under the hood that tells you how long to heat them so just do that when you start it.

Thanks Todd, that's what I figured. I know how long to heat them, was just curious about the wire lighting up. I've had my nose in the manual.

For my brother's JD 330 the glow plug light doesn't work so he wired up a trailer marker light in its place.
It's one of these:
