K321 dipstick

I have a 147 with a broken rod. Noticed the long dipstick is broken or cut off. Dont know why or how. I see another shorter stick on the motor. Can you use the short stick to measure the correct oil level? Why 2 sticks???

The 147 rolled out of the Factory with a Kohler K321S‐60226D engine in it.

That K321S had only one dipstick and that is 237620-S.

Anything other than that, is a PO modification or hack job.

not a "hack job" at all. There's a short stick by the points and a long tall stick on the opposite side of motor.

Looks like you got an older motor (long dipstick) with a PO modified/installed cam cover dipstick.

The old K block used longer dipstick until Kohler began adding balance gears. That made it necessary to move the dipstick somewhere else... .which is on the cam gear cover by the points.

The long stick is broken/cut off. Can you check the oil with the short one? There is different oil capacity for these motors so its confusing. Motor is a 1970 according to the numbers.

Then you don't have the OEM engine.

YES motor is original. All I want to know is if the short stick is accurate to measure the oil and how much does it hold. My long stick is. Broken.
