Muffler leak
I need help fixing my exhaust, I have a bad exhaust leak. The muffler sits nice and snug on the muffler elbow, but the flange on the exhaust is broken off and the hole is deformed. I've heard to cut the top off an aluminum can and wrap it around the muffler to seal it. Any other tips? TIA.

It'll be welded soon, but I need the tractor out from its corner behind a bale. |
Muffler is broken. Missing a piece. Get another one. You won't stop that leak.

That's part of the problem, the other part is probably that I'm using a 1.5" clamp on a 1" outlet. I need a new clamp. Even if the muffler was fine I'd still need a new clamp because the original one has the one side snapped off.
Edit- Isn't the outlet 1.5"? I could get a 1.5" clamp, and I think the one I'm using is actually 2", from a JD 318. |
Get a new muffler and the correct clamp. If you are going to go with a "cobble job" then you are on your own.
BTW: Aluminum can...........Bad Idea. |
Duck tape! It fixes everything, and it will enhance the quality of the other work you do.

Step 1: Read and learn. Step 2: Open mouth. If you are successful at step 1, you don't need step 2. http://www.octanecreative.com/ducttape/duckvsduct.html |

Did not WWII ammo boxes have the rubber seal in the lids? Anyways.......that WWII duck tape must have been a whole lot gooder than todays duct tape. |
You guys are mixing up a type of tape, with a brand name of tape.
:biggrin2: |
:bigthink:Yes, like if you say to store clerk, "Where's the Scotch tape?" , they know you mean cellophane tape. Or if you "Google" something everybody on the planet knows what you mean, but they might not if you say "I Gigablast'ed it".:bigthink:
