K341 question

I know the 169 has a Kohler K341A engine, and the "A" designates a special oil pan. Other models have the K341AQS, which I believe means Quiet Model and Electric start. Are the oil pans the same on the two engines? And do both engines have a 13 fin block? Thanks for any input.

Since you have the detailed information, I would suggest that you click on the Tab at the top of the page that says ..."Cub Cadet Parts and Service Look-up". Plug in your model(s) and it will bring up the Parts List.

AS I UNDERSTAND IT --- The "13 fin" cooling fin engines was first introduced on 16 HP Engines, for the 169. At some point in time, Kohler switched to the 12 Fin engine. One can only speculate the reason, but I would venture to say to was a cost savings item.

The 13 fin engine is sought after for a couple of reasons. (A) It provided better cooling (more displacement - mass) and the cylinder walls were thicker.

BTW, there are reports and claims that there were 13 Fin K301 & K321 (12 & 14HP) engines also.
