My son found these in the yard. We installed some new fence "about 800 feet worth" In the far back corner of the property he found these. There was some real old hickory fence posts close by. I think the long one is a bit? Not a horse guy.. what's the other one?

The one on the left looks like a gate latch

The circle one?

The other one.

Crap.. you might be right..I thought it was an old horse bit. My property was once a farm with horses. Like i said.. i have no clue

My first thought was a drag chain from a grain drill, but now I'm thinking horse bit.

Ok.. maybe this will help. Central Long island. Potatoe farm. Guy had horses and airstrip for his own crop duster ran right down the center of my property. Plenty of horses still in the neighborhood. Lol.. I got no idea what these things are. Was just guessing

My first impression of the first picture is a bridle bit. With that being said, the ring in second picture may very very be part of a harness or halter. Or even part of a saddle, like a saddle strap ( there could be at least two rings like that for the strap). If someone left the equipment out in the field, there has to be more metal parts laying around.... got a metal detector?

It may not be part of farming.... could be cavalry?

Kind of funny how long this stuff lays in the ground before its found. Pulled up a dead shrub at Dad's house last week and found a horseshoe. Within the last 5 years, I had a horse (mule) shoe lock up the double disc openers on the grain drill. No harm, the U shape had gotten bent closed some and it went right straddle the discs. Knocked it off with a hammer and back in business.

Late 50's or very early 60's saw the last horse/mule in the field here. To this day the harness are still hanging right where they always did in the barn.

John Hall,
In your left pic, on bottom end of blinders, looks like maybe big rings.
Maybe same size as O.P.'s

What are the dim.s of what might be a bit?
The more simple or plain bits are usually older than "fancy" types that are fat or hinged in the middle.
