2166 belt guard
 

Looking for position to mount spring wire belt guard (932-0970). Would bend in wire go "under" pulley or "forward" of pulley as parts breakdown shows? Is it even functional as the belt tension is always "on" or does this account for any slack when the deck is running? My wire broke and I'm wondering if it's even necessary to replace?

tobo, I was able to put one in the cart but admittedly I didn't actually purchase it. It does appear to be available though.

I don't think that it does much. I've bent them out of the way in order to replace the belt. They normally go below the pulley to insure that the belt is guided into the groove of the pulley. As you noted the belt is under tension. Your call.

I agree that it doesn't appear that it does much, if anything. That is the leaving (slack) side of the rotation and might be just to keep the belt in position when the tension is relieved when removing the deck. Just trying to make sure I wasn't missing something obvious. Thanks for the input.

Wow, please disregard my previous post. Sometime between reading the original post and locating the part in question I mistakenly began thinking that the question was where the part could be purchased not if the part was actually needed.
