1862 with 44GT deck belt size difficultiy

I have an 1862 (142-683-100 /sn 826413) with a 44GT (318-190 / sn 409857) mower deck which I bought used. I'd like to replace the mule drive belt which appears to flop around way too much and there is no room for adjustment with the mule drive pulleys. The belt I'd like to replace is labeled 5/8 x 94 with an in side dimension of 91". According to cub cadet, the replacement belt is part number 954-3023 (.660 x 93.13). When I search google, I'm referred to belts which are listed as 5/8 x 94. After ordering the 5/8 x 94, I find that it is too big and still there is no room for adjustment with the mule drive pulleys.

My question is, should I use a smaller belt size, say 5/8 x 92 (954-3001) so that their is some adjustment of the mule drive pulleys available as it wears and stretches over time?

I know this post is long winded, but I am hoping my explanation will lead to some much needed advice before I order the wrong belt again. Thanks

On my 1862 with a 54 inch deck I use 954-3001. Have used this
without a hint of trouble for many years. I don't know specifics of a
44 inch deck but if the main pulley and the PTO pulley are 6 inch
pulleys I believe that is the belt that will work for you, hopefully.

Looks like this is one of those Cub Cadet Proprietary Parts situations. The correct belt is 954-3023 that is 21/32" x 93-1/8".

Using aftermarket Section B belts may and probably won't work.

Thank you Roland. I'll order 954-3023 and hope it isn't too big. I'll let you know.

44GT Deck on 1862

One other thing to check is that your hanging frame (for the deck) is attached to the proper holes in the front hanger frame (mule drive). This will affect the fit and adjustment of the belt.:bigthink:
