Compressor /sandblaster recomendations

3 Attachment(s)
Hello, I am new to the board and I just picked up a cub cadet 106 which I intend to restore as well as use.
I am wondering what compressor/blaster set ups people use? I never tried a restore and currently my knowledge of the Cubs is very limited. Heck, I am still trying to figure out what year it is... the last two digits is 71 so it may be a 1971?

I have looked through the fourms for the last week ir so gathering intel and parts ect. Some of my questions may have been asked already but please go easy on the Rookie..lol
Thanks-Matt

I am in the process of sandblasting a 54" mower deck. My setup works very well for sandblasting rust, paint, and powder coat.

First, welcome to OCC..... :Welcome2:

The compressor must be equal to or greater that the CFM and PSI you plan to use the sandblaster for, ie: 4CFM @ 100 PSI, etc.

Roland he has a 106 and got the 71 from the data plate. It’s not a model 71 although the year may be right.

Welcome king, Roland or someone will be around to look up month and year made for you. Your serial is hard to read but built from 69 to 71. I’m sure it was just an oversite. Lots of knowledge on these tractors here.

I personally am going to look intot the pressure washer sand blaster attachment. Have heard good things about some of them and no dust!

Roland is correct on having an air compressor with a high enough CFM output. My compressor is 15.8 cfm @90 psi and the Eastwood blaster requires 10 cfm @90 psi. I can run 100 lbs of abrasive thru the blaster and not have to stop and wait for the compressor to catch up. If your compressor is undersized you will spend more time waiting on it than sandblasting. BTDT.

Thanks for the replies and the links. I will look for a compressor that will match the cfm for the compressor amd blaster. I will need to find a more economical compressor for now.

Sorry for the bad pic if the serial #. It is 2050037u375571
I hit all the bolts with pb blaster and. Will start taking it apart over the next week or so. There is quite a bit of informationon this site!

It should be a fun project and I am eager to get started. Cheers

Thanks Roland!
My next step is getting the paint colors figured out.

I did find the compressor below but it is 5.3 cfm @ 90 psi.

I really dont want to spend more than that. I will look for a compatable blaster.

In my humble opinion, a 5 cfm with a 20 gal tank is not going to run any kind of sand blaster other than a spark plug cleaner.
I don't mean to piss on yer parade, just some things are what they are.
You might be better served at finding a larger, at least 5 hp 15 + cfm old air compressor on the internet, C list, spaced out bookie etc.
There are older name brands out there that will last your lifetime and have already lasted a lifetime that will serve you well
I understand your enthusiasm and commend it. :beerchug:
