1772 Front Axle

I had to do some work on the 1772 the other day. In order to get what I needed done, it was easier to pull the front axle off. While doing that wasn't bad, I was surprised what appeared to be a washer-shim between the backside of the axle and the hanger for the axle and 2 washers that go on the pivot bolt just underneath the castle nut. I looked in the parts book and found no such parts, and then looked in the chassis manual and came up blank also. Has anyone taken a front axle off of their 1772 or possibly 1572 and found the same? Could this be a PO modification?

Probably a PO modification.

I've shimmed a number of front axles that way. Takes the play out by tightening up the axle in the frame pocket. Some just squeeze the frame.

Thanks Roland and Mike. This was the first time I've seen a setup like that.
