My 2 big IH tractors- 1946 H and 1950 Cub

I've posted about these on other forums but never made mention of them here. as of this year my collection has grown to include 2 IH farm tractors, a 1946 H and a 1950 Cub.

I became the owner of the Cub back in the spring, it was given to me by my grandfather. It had sat in his barn for about 5 years. On July 4th I took a battery and some tools over, and by the end of the day was up and running again. It took a long while to have time to get the trailer over there, but today it finally came home. Along with it came a Wisconsin TJD powered tow behind flail mower.

The H was a more recent purchase, about 2 weeks ago now. A local man who had collected a number of IH tractors unfortunately passed away not long ago, and much of the equipment he had was being sold off. This H with a New Idea loader was listed for $1000. Engine turned over and had compression. Upon inspection it's actually in really good shape other than cosmetically. Within 4 hours of getting it home, it was running and driving as well. Heck, even the loader and all 3 lights work. It was missing an exhaust pipe for whatever reason, but yesterday me and my neighbor cut and threaded a pipe for the exhaust.

So that's what I've been up to lately. More old iron to fix up and have some fun with. Always nice to take machines that were sitting and make them run again :beerchug:

Nice score. One of these days I'll have me a Cub.

Nice collection of old patina tractors! Did that H come from the auction which Lew had posted on this forum?

Thanks! The Cub sure is a fun little tractor, with all of its 9 horsepower. Quite interesting to drive it sitting offset too.

Thanks as well! I much prefer the patina look over repainted, but that's just me. Gotta love the lichens growing all over the H.

As for auctions, it did not come from any auction. Everything that belonged to the collector that was for sale was, quite simply listed on Marketplace. This H was the last machine to be sold. People seem to get scared off by the front end loaders. When my father bought a Farmall M with loader, the seller told him that he got multiple offers to buy the tractor without the loader but refused to sell it without. Best guess is that people don't want to deal with the hydraulics. I, on the other hand, think its unique and kinda cool.

This is where it was sitting before I bought it:
