321190 46"GT deck

I have the above deck on my 1864 (842xxx serial#). This seems like it plugs up a lot. I have to clean it out twice when I mow my 1 1/2 acre lot. I'm running the low lift blades, and I don't think I'm trying to mow too much off at once. I have a 728 simplicity with a 36" deck that I can mow several times before cleaning out the deck. Is there a better deck out there for the my Cub, or is there a modification I can do to keep it from plugging so much?

Thanks.

Make sure the grass is dry when you mow and I'd give the hi lift blades a try.

I have one of them 46GT decks for my 1641 and they are basically not worth the powder to blow them to you know where. I wonder if those style decks are meant to operate with with a bagger system. I swapped a 54" for it and regret it every day. That 54" deck would plow through 6" tall grass without any problems what so ever. Live and learn I reckon.

I have never had a problem with a 48" or the 54" deck clogging up at all.
Might want to try one of them.

I've been running four tractors with the 46" GT deck for a long time. I never had one clog that I can remember unless I got in really tall, wet grass/weeds. They work great with a bagger but they also tend to windrow the clippings and don't want to cut the "cat tail" weeds in my yards.

I switched all of them in the last year to the 48"/54" deck. I like them a whole lot better for the cut I get.

There had to have been good a reason CC replaced the 46" deck with the 48"/54" as I imagine the 48"/54" cost quite a bit more to make.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a chance to pick up a 50C. Would that be worthwhile or should I look around for a 48 or 54? I know that the drive pulley is different for the 50C but other than that what else could I run into?

I am not a model # guy, so I am not sure which deck you are talking about.

This deck on an 1861 has NEVER been cleaned, I have used it an hour after a rain.

The discharge opening amazes me that anything will come out. It will clump occasionally, especially if you are cutting off more than 6" of grass.

I just cut with this deck an hour ago.

The deck is only 36" wide, and that entire discharge chute is open. It will throw clippings 10 feet!

I thought you would like to see what the blades look like.

:ROTF2:

I almost fell over when I read hi-lift on that blade with the little wing. I have never had a blade with that small of a wing.

BUT, it does work well.

The reason I posted the pics is to show it might not be the blade design. :bigthink:

This is a 1641 I used to own, it had the 46" deck, I put a set of Meg-Mo blades on it. The cut was great and no clippings to clean up.

Just out of curiosity how much are them Meg Mo blades?

Kelly here is the link to Meg-Mo, price depends on the length of the blade but they are not cheap at first.
