Steering Box Question
Everything I find on rebuilding these Ross boxes shows the end cap with a slot, and holes in the housing for a cotter pin. Mine, OTOH, has a cap with a half moon slot (like a woodruff key) and no holes in the housing. So, any ideas about that? What would be some good ways to hold the final adjustment in lieu of the cotter pin? My only idea so far (short of adjusting it then drilling through for a pin) would be a bit of Loctite. Any other thoughts?

Hi Bob,
I suggest that a couple of photos might help the group help you. I wonder if your steering box is a replacement? Mine had the cotter pin through the side. Good luck! Andy |
The early Ross boxes didn’t have the cotter pin and hole to hold the end cap from turning. The box on my 100 is like that.

Once you have it adjusted, you are suppose to stake it to hold in place. If I remember correctly when I did my 100 box, I staked it right on the edge near the threads.
