1811 cub, won't lift its implement.

I just recently bought an 1811 tractor with a 45" snow blower on it. The seller said it lifted slowly, yeah, so slow it won't lift at all. Yesterday I emptied the hytran, replaced the filter with a proper filter and refilled it with 7 quarts of hytran. Still no lift. I monkeyed around with it for several hours last afternoon and evening to no avail.
Can someone point me in a proper direction to fix this, I kinda need that snowblower operating. I took it out of the shop last evening and ran it for a bit and if I can fix this problem I can see that this will be a beast of a machine.

If the hydro transaxle is going forward and reverse as intended, there must be an issue with the dash hydraulic valve, weak lift cylinder, or a restricted line. It's a very simple setup.

Check hydraulic pressure and add shims if needed.

As said, check the system pressure first and if you can't do that then add a .010" shim to the implement relief valve. If that doesn't work, take that shim out before you fix anything else before you forget.

Could be a weak charge pump, bypassing cylinder or valve. I doubt many of these valve get worm out by cycling but more likely scarred from sitting and rusting then forced into moving.

But start with the pressure to save a lot of time.

Download the tractor manual here. Towards the end is all the info on how to check the pressure and other stuff.

This is a link for rebuilding, overhauling the control

Ok, I'm kinda new to working on these myself, I understand the general idea of checking pressure can you give me more detailed instructions on this and "Shims"?????

on page 3-55 of the manual the procedure is explained.

Did you check the lift linkage for a broken spiral pin? :bigthink:

Any leaks? As the others have said, there isn't much to it.

If it was lifting slow before I'd be hesitant to suspect anything mechanical wrong. Take the tunnel cover off (4 bolts) and see if the lift cylinder is moving (then see what isn't moving).
