I agree completely.

I put a small one wire alt on mine, but had to add a relay to turn it off because it was draining the battery overnight. It works great now.

Wow! Is the alternator you have charging at all? I had a couple of problems with the Cub charging systems on my 1572 and 1772. On the 1572, the regulator came apart internally. A seam opened up on the edges where the potted electronics met the heat sink and stopped charging. When I unbolted the regulator and pressed on the epoxy covering the electronics, it would resume charging. On the 1772, it stopped charging and I traced this one to corroded and burned crimps in the connector where the voltage regulator plugs into the tractor wiring harness. I replaced the connector housing and all the crimps and adding some connector anti-oxidant, and all is fine for 2 -3 years now.

I haven't really tackled the electrical yet, just doing my homework and seeing what others have done or experienced. I got it running, did oil change, and radiator flush. I will tackle the electrical as soon as there is a break in this heat. I have to tackle a newly discovered fuel leak after filling tank with fresh diesel and a shot of Diesel Kleen.
