Need help deciding between a 149 and a 1250/1450/1650

Hello. I am new here.

I am looking to buy a vintage IH Cub Cadet and I am looking between a 149 and the similar quietline models (1250/1450/1650).

Admittedly, most of this is because I think the machines look cool. Most of my tractor usage will be cutting grass. Of course, I do want an excuse to buy a tiller and snowblower!

Nonetheless, I've read the pros/cons of the quietline series. Long rotted iso mounts and their replacement. I'm not opposed to some TLC especially if I am buying a 50 year old machine.

I've only ever used newer MTD machines. How brutal is the 149 noise and vibration on a 149? I have a Harley Davidson so I'm kind of used to it!

Other than noise and vibration, are there any major considerations to be made between the 149 and the Quietline siblings? I like the look of the 149 over the Quietline.

If I do find a 169, I know to grab it!

Have you considered a 82 series? they have no vibration to speak of.

My preference would be the 1650! Got the power to run any attachments for that series! I got my Dad's 1650 he bought new and I'm planning on retiring at the end of the year and first project is restoring the 1650!

I bought a 1650.....purely by ignorance mind you. It's impressive how much power it has. It mows, pulls, tows, and not much seems to bug it. It's a workhorse and I want to make it into the do-it-all it originally was.

I have the snow thrower and the 50A deck. Working on the rear hydro and adding a tiller to the bunch. There's so many things to look up but the previous owner was a good one and has most everything listed out as to what he did/repaired. Best starting point I think would depend on the guy you're buying it from.

I don't mind an 82 series but I will probably benefit from the smaller machines.

It seems like there aren't any major preferences either way? Just many fans of the 1650?

149 fan here. Had a 1450 and hated it. All the heat shourding on that thing was always breaking up, screws were always coming out. The iso mounts were good when new but didn't last very long. After the third set I got rid of it. The 149 seems to run cooler too, don't have those large side panels. Just my opinion

I currently have a 149 and a 1200.
149 is hydro, 1200 is gear drive with electric lift.
1200 had bad bad ISO mounts when I got it, went to solid mounts and no regrets.
149 is used for snow removal, both are used for grass cutting.
I like them both equally & wouldn't part with either one.
The only thing I consider to be an advantage on the Quietlines is the starter/charging system is a little more modern and easier to maintain and trouble shoot.
All JMO.

another angle to look at. personally 122 hands down but i cut alot with a 70, with the good old 161. surprisingly enough you don,t have to check the gas tank every time you sit down. The 181 is a great motor too. economy is smart thinking if your just cutting grass. just my two cents.
