Saving a 1982 Yellow & White CCC 782

I acquired this Y/W 784 about a month ago when picking up a 1641. Both were headed to scrap, so they threw in this tractor. Sitting 10-20 years (owner got it in the same condition I did), it has the original KT17 Series II.

I was curious why it still has the IH S/N/Model # system, despite being CCC produced in 1982 (I surmised from the 142 in the model).

My immediate plans are to rebuild the carb (once a kit shows up) and see how she runs. Intake manifold and carb were off when I got it. Fuel pump runs good, and I replaced the lines/filter. Engine being somewhat apart I had assumed it threw a rod like most KT17s like to (I had that experience with a Series II in my 1711, too), but it has good compression and doesn't seem to have any extra holes.

I did have to get a new front tire, and found a matching Turf Saver to compliment the other side. Short term plans are mounting some R1 Goodyears I picked up and adding a sleeve hitch that was destined for the 1811, but seems like a better fit on the cast rear (saves $80 for the Xtreme tabbed ear U hitch).

Jeff should have a Brinly adapter shipping out for me Monday, so outside of fabricating a lift rod to match the one on the 1711 I should be good to go on both of those aspects.

An aside, Rustoleum transport yellow seems to match the Iron Guard I used on the 1811 wheel weights last fall (and goes on a lot better/thicker). If it were a bigger project I'd look harder for Rustoleum Marigold. :beerchug:

Some pictures of when I first got it (on the trailer) and how it looked tonight.

That is a super early CCC tractor-probably has the Brownsville Tenn address on the tag, instead of Cleveland, OH.

Yes, exactly! Thought that was neat. Cast rear too.

Almost seems too early to have the Series II?

The KT17 Series I were installed in Chassis Serial Numbers below 726124.

The KT17 Series II were installed in Chassis Serial Numbers above 726125.

Obviously, almost all the Series I have been replaced due to failures. They are a rare sight today.

Thanks -- it would seem this has been replaced. I saw it has the holes in the tin and blockoff on the block for the remote filters...I wonder if my M18 spare ones would bolt right up.

I sold the conversion kit I had back when my other Series II launched a rod. Certainly this one shipped with a Series I, then, but must have been replaced before Magnums were a popular replacement. :beerchug:

The M18 Oil filter bosses will fit the KT17 series II's so equipped with the provisions. Unfortunately, not all Series II's had oil filter provisions!

I saw this one had the block off plate and the holes in the shroud for it. I'm not sure what else would be needed besides maybe adding a hole in the firewall (will compare to 1811 mounting).

Probably a value-added improvement. :bigthink:

My 682 has the M18 with the remote oil filter added to the firewall. I drilled a couple of holes to snugly fit it under the fuel tank. I trimmed the firewall to hood/side panel seal to accommodate the flexible oil lines.

I'll give it a shot once it proves to be worthy.

Treated the 782 & 984 to new gas caps. Stens 125-280 shows Made in USA, amazingly.
