Inaudible basket empty warning
 

Hi Guys

I have trouble, great trouble, hearing my empty basket beeper. Indeed, I don't remember hearing it at all last year. As a consequence, I sometimes tootle along, with cuttings dropping out onto the lawn, which I then have to revisit, thus wasting time. It was always hard for me to hear, and now some 12 years on, both the buzzer and my hearing are probably worse.

I can almost guarantee it will be working. My high frequency hearing is very poor, and has gotten worse recently, so even if I clean it all up, blow it out etc, I still don't think I will hear it over the sound of the engine.

Has anyone come up with a louder, lower frequency, buzzer, beeper, bell, that can be fed from the same wiring? Actually, any mod of any sort to help me hear it would be great.

My mower is a CC1023RD, and the buzzer is high up on the left hand side panel, just above the wheel, but inside.

It used to go, beep, beep, beep, and almost certainly still does, lol.

By the way, it does still work, but I can barely hear it. Even if a car goes past, 150 yds away, I can't hear it anymore. I have the mower stripped down at the moment, to fix the hydro-gear transmission, well, that's done now, but I thought I may as well do this whilst it's a little easier to get to it.

Yes, great idea. Reversing alarm. I can hear those well enough on trucks, buses, etc. I'll look for one in the UK. I'll try to find one with the frequency listed too, because I just did a quick test, using a youtube video, and it would seem I have lost both high and low frequencies. I hear nothing until 200Hz, and it's gone again at 5KHz. About 800-1000Hz, is still very loud though. Of course I don't know the frequency response of my PC, but at least I now know I can hear 800Hz very well.

Thank you for pointing me at these. I had been searching for beepers, or buzzers, without too much success.

If you can see better than you can hear, maybe a light would work.

My eyesight is fine, so that's a good idea too, thanks, but I already ordered a vehicle reversing alarm, so I'll see how that goes. I'll be sure to report back on how I get on in a few days.

Turns out what I purchased seems to be identical to the original. I didn't aim to do that, I just searched for reversing alarms. Found one at 107db, and bought it. Hole centres were the same, so, result!

Not clear why the old one would be so quiet now, but I made a video to compare. Not a direct comparison, since the new one was already mounted when I made the recording, and the video doesn't do a perfect job of reproducing the sounds, but I hear the new one well, very well, when fitted inside the mower, and can barely hear the old one, right in front of the camera, even though I had cleaned out the majority of the muck over the sounder. It would seem my hearing isn't as bad as I thought, lol. The new one is very loud, in real life, and can easily be heard over the sound of the engine. Unless your PC has good sound, you might not hear the original.
