1711 Renovation

I'm calling this a renovation rather than a restoration since it was more about making the tractor usable compared to making it "new" again. Anyway, this thread will mostly just be pictures with subtitles for each step from along the way. I know everybody likes pictures.

Step one was to get the tractor from my dad. He had been sitting on it for over a decade and I knew he'd never get around to it. So $free.99 was a good price to start a new project. I drug it home and it sat for a few months until I was ready to dig in.

Step 2 was to get her running and looking a little better. I found a 44C deck on Craigslist, picked up 2 front tires to replace the mismatched rotted tires it had, and took a ride up to Ray's to get some side panels, a grill, and a seat. I was able to get it running but it wasn't great so I ended up getting some fresh ignition parts from isavetractors.

Now that I felt safe enough to throw a little more money at it, the deck spindles got rebuilt along with a few other worn parts. No tractor is a real tractor without ags right? I wanted to keep the factory rear tires so I found a pair of rear wheels to sandblast and powdercoat for a pair of OTR Fieldmaster tires. The only issue I was having with the tractor was that I didn't really like the way it mowed compared to my 1641 which made it kind of a useless tractor. I always thought a 3pt hitch would be cool and I had an idea so I ordered the Xtreme Motorworks kit. She was looking pretty nice now.

At this point, the crankcase had flooded twice with gasoline which gets frustrating after wasting new oil. After a little research, I ended up ordering an electric fuel pump from Kirk engines along with his "supersteer kit". I also finally found some time to build my box blade, the reasoning for my 3pt hitch all along. It turned out perfect.

Now up to current day, the last thing I wanted to do was to blast and powdercoat the front wheels and get some seat time. I took the tractor over to my mom's house to rework her driveway. The tractor ran well and the box blade did it's job so I'm very happy with everything. I have a few more little things I'd like to do but overall, I'm calling this a successful completed project. Future work includes either replacing some steering joints or switching over to a supersteer axle and possibly the Xtreme Race Braces. The tractor will also get polished up a little but I'm keeping the scratches and "patina".

Thanks for looking.

1711 looks great. Does it still have the series 2 motor in it? Nice job on the box blade too.

It looks great. I am glad you took the time to save it. Not many 1711’s out there.

I'm getting fond of that series. I had to put an engine in my 1711, but just acquired an 1811 too.

I think that's all of them except a 1211 :D

OP, the powercoated wheels look awesome!

I too have a 1985 1711. It has a M20 engine, and is my plow unit. The rear tires are ags.
