882 Drive Shaft Removal and Replacement
Hi what is the procedure to remove and replace the driveshaft on the 882 tractor? Does the engine have to be slid front? Seems like not enough room to get it out. Thanks!

The complete assembly can slide forward or pulled like this one. This is a 1772 but basically the same engine assembly.
Attachment 97864 You will probably need to replace just about everything in the driveline and be good for another 30 years. Looks like it's PBJ time....Parts by Jeff:biggrin2: |
Are you saying that yes, you have to pull the engine to get the drive shaft out?

I believe you can knock all the pins out on the rear, including removing the fan keeper bolt, then slide everything forward on the shaft.
Better order a new fan too while you are at it! Then when you get the front disconnected, there will be enough room to slide the drive shaft rearwards for removal. At least that's what I recall from removing mine a couple years ago and I did not remove the engine. NOTE: Good time to replace the alternator belt as well if it's condition warrants. To me, having to remove the engine as an assembly, would put me into "partial restoration" territory, and I would hate to get "bored" |
Thank you for your response. Good idea about the alternator belt. I forgot about that!
