CCC 1211 Oil Problem
I got my 1211 running nicely. Now, I noticed that engine oil is spraying, or misting up through the oil fill tube. The oil does not blow the fill tube cap/check stick off. Yes, the 1211 smokes a bit, lol!
Now, what might be this a result of? On another note, I'm quite impressed how fast the 1211 can haul down the road! I mean sailing-blow your hair back fast! I do have a Kohler Series Two 17 to install if this Mag 12 needs a rebuild. Thank you |
Did you put new oil in?
Check the fuel pump (or check the oil for gas). Make sure the crank vent is in working order. You may just have excess moisture in the crankcase if it hasn't ran in a long while. Fresh oil and run time may be all it needs. |
How's the o-ring look on the dipstick? These engines blow a ton of oil out if the dipstick isn't in so it's possible you just have a bad o-ring.

As for the crank case vent, I installed a piece of hose to the valve cover elbow, and routed the hose down the side and just tucked it under the engine oil pan. I don't think I could have overtightened, or installed a blocked hose, but I'll double check on that. You hit the nail again! I changed the engine oil already because on seeing white moisture on the oil stick, and by viewing down the filler tube. Yes, the engine has been sitting quite a while. Engine performance seems as should, and starts easily. |

What size hose did you use for the vent?
I'm not a big fan of making the vent tube long. You can, but it needs to be a fairly large hose so as not to be a restriction to the vent. Otherwise it can't vent fast enough. Take it off and see if the steam goes away. It probably just needs ran to clear up the moisture, but I'd say the added vent hose is causing the issue. |

I have a concern about major engine components about to let go because of this oil problem. But the feed back I'm receiving is rather relieving! However, there is no engine knocking. I don't doubt the engine could use an over haul. Maybe I can get a picture and video of what I got. About ready to take it out to use for cleaning out the hen house. Thanks for being a great help here! |
