Carb Bushing #?
Anyone know what the bushing size is at ace hardware for the throttle shafts? Got a kit at local dealer but they didn't have the bushings and I saw somewhere that ace had the right size for this. Am going to try to get them in a few minutes so----- any takers?

I think this is what you need:
7/16" o.d. x 1/4" i.d. x 1/8" thick |
Thanks, I will check and see what I can find. I know someone had found them at a hardware store, just can't remember where I read it.

I just got back from Ace and the bushing that fits the shaft is too large for the carb bore. I can drill it out to fit, but really don't want to drill it if I don't have too. I would have to remeasure but the difference from shaft to bore is only something like .030. Not much more than a shim bushing. Drilling out the shaft bore would make room for a good size bushing. I read where there is a kit from Kohler that has a new shaft, bushing and screws, but the IH dealer here had a regular kit and didn't have any bushings, didn't act like he had heard of it. Had tune up stuff and a head gskt, walked right to them so I would think He would have at least known.

I recall having to drill my carb back when I did that upgrade. It isn't too bad, just go slow and steady. Use some Red Loctite when you put the bushing in. The drill was just small enough I had to use a light wooden hammer to seat the bushing.
|
Thanks, just wanted to be sure that is what you do. The hole will guide the bit, just hated to drill it and find out I have the wrong bushings. Did the carbs have bushings from the factory or just like they are and that is the problem. Guess 40 years is not too bad for a carb shaft.

Has anybody mic'd a Kohler bushing and then tried to find a match at McMaster-Carr?

I haven't been able to find a washer like that tho. :( Probably as always looking in the wrong places.. LOL

Here's a link to a bushing I found/made from local hardware store. http://onlycubcadets.net/forum/showt...t=139&page=256
I found the washer in the plumbing section, there was a box of assorted washers for plumbing fixtures. The purple washer is a very dense rubber, almost plastic like. It fit perfectly in carb, just had to drill out center a little for a super snug fit. It works great as it's on my 147 that's running good now! If you need part# I can get it for you when I head over to the store today, tomorrow. |
Now your talking, that is a much better way to fix these than the bushing I was about to put in!! Sure am glad I didn't jump in and drill the shaft hole out. Got my head for the 109 off, cleaned carbon and found a .020 piston in the cyl. Took the head to the machine shop when I went to pick up the head for my series 60 detroit that they were rebuilding. They trued it up for me while I was there and didn't even charge me for it, after what I payed for the Detroit head I guess that wasn't much. It only took a couple of minutes on the belt to make it really purty! The daughter wants to go put it on right now so I will be looking for the head torque and going down to put the head on, brought the die grinder with the wizzer pad home to finish cleaning it up. Thanks for the washer trick, you guys are AWESOME!!!!

What Sminkey used and somelse on here used is the way to go .
The other "someone" had an Ace Hardware # for a plumbing bushing that was a good fit . I have not had time to do a search, but it's here some where . Good fixing too ya .......... |
Hi, new member here, there is a bushing kit that works well, from kohler, the problem with just bushing is that many times the throttle shaft is real worn also. there are a few different sizes (kits) so you have to measure to shaft. the most common ones I have sold are kohler part #25 757 15-s, and 25 757 16-s, and they are very proud of them as they run about $50. spendy for a bushing and shaft

I found this.

$50 seems a little steep to me too. Got a thick rubber bushing that is a little wide, will drill out the middle to fit shaft and shape the outside to the carb. If it works I have .89 cents in the part. Course it might not work, and in that case I just crapped away a buck! Couldn't find anything that was a great match, but not giving up. Wish someone had some part numbers for these bushings/washers from Ace.

Is all I could find so far:

I do some plummin from time to time.Once in a while you have a dripping faucet to fix,by replacing the rubber washers on valve stems on sinks, tubs ect,low and behold in my kit is the same type of washer Jude used. All I had to do was twist a .266 drill bit by hand and wala!,new bushing.

Carb bushings
One of our sponcers listed at the top of the page "Cub Cadet Classics" sells them. They are on the botton of the third page of Kohler parts.

Just got to check back after a crazy weekend. Thanks for the part numbers on the bronze bushings, I will check on those. I looked at the rubber ones like the ones you have dark, and the ones at Ace looked to large so I got one that is not tapered. Haven't even had time to try to stick it in. May be tonight, got the series 60 Detroit running late Sat, have to put the hood back on this morning and try to catch up on two weeks of missed work so hopping to get mower running soon, yard is starting to talk about a clip, will be screaming soon!

Ok, sorry for the delay! Below is a pic of the washer I used. It's flat on both sides and is 29/64" in size. It's made by BrassCraft and the part # is SCB2142. Cost me .79 and was purchased at an Aubuchon Hardware. It also says 000L on the washer:biggrin2:

That looks really close to the one I used, didn't have any lock tight to finish the plate so now am ready to put it together. Have to look at the mil ice maker first, hope to get it going today!!! Thanks for all the info.
