Cub Cadet injury

Well, I went out yesterday afternoon to pick up a Cub Cadet off a gentleman and ended up having to go the ER!
We were pushing it up on my trailer and the undercarriage got caught on the mesh gate. We backed it off and I tried to shove the spring mechanism down to pull the mule drive out and it snapped and my thumb got wedged somehow between the carriage and the shaft. I was caught for 10 minutes in the tractor. Smashed my thumb pretty good. I have no feeling in my thumb at all. The doctor said it severely bruised all the nerves in my thumb.
I might have to part this one out because it smashed my thumb!!! hehe Just kidding!
It is pretty rough though.

Thanks guys.

Duke,

Yeah, it did suck! We couldn't figure out what was holding me. Everytime he tried to move something it increased the pressure on it. I'm glad someone else was there. I would still be there!

Eric,

This 1200 sure fought back!

ACecil 03-11-2011 01:00 PM

So sorry to hear that. Hope you have a quick recovery!

Cubcrazy 03-11-2011 01:56 PM

Thanks Allen!
Me too! You don't realize how much you use your thumb until you can't!

MrGitrdone41 03-11-2011 02:22 PM

That sucks Mike. It seems like cubs like to fight when you work on them.

Yikes I can feel that up here in central NY. Hope your thumb mends up quickly. :bash2:

I was changing the drive shaft on my old Chevy blazer when I was about 17. I didn't have any help. So I was trying to hold the (back) end of the shaft up with my foot while I was tightening the bands on the (front) u-joint. Yea , the shaft slipped of my boot, my thumb was pinched in between the u-joint end cap and ear on the yoke with the weight of the whole shaft hanging on it. Needless to say it was smashed pretty bad. Probably should have went to see someone about it, but young and ( it will be OK) took over. after about 10-12 years I finally regained most of the feeling in it.

Consider yourself lucky that you cant feel it. We all know how many times a day we bump that finger after we just smashed it.

Sorry to hear about your injury. Get well. I guess you'll have too name the 1200 "Christine" since it attacked you.

Cubcrazy 03-12-2011 06:18 AM

Thanks Guys!
Everything is still sitting on the trailer even. I haven't even attempted to take anything off yet.
Talking with the guy after it happened he was telling me about he went to the neighbors a few years ago with the tractor with snowblower mounted on the front and it was a wet snow and it got plugged up. He said he doesn't know if when he got off the tractor he partially hit the pto switch or what but he put his hand in the auger housing to try to unplug the snow and it kicked on and his jacket sleeve got pulled in and he lost the end of his finger. I got the snowthrower with it too.

Adam,

"Christine" is fitting for this tractor for sure!!

I was just thinking the exact same thing, LOL. Too bad you can't tell if Steven King used to own it.

Hey Eric!

Been busy this week and haven't gotten on much.
Thumb is a little better but still don't have much feeling in it after 8 days!!
Thanks for asking.

juniors1282 03-18-2011 09:34 PM

No problem, Hope it gets to felling better for you. As nice as it was today I thought you might stop over and get some measurement's form the bagger. I'm going to put it on CL next week sometime, I need some cub cash :biggrin2:. If you know which part, I can measure it for you.

Cubcrazy 03-18-2011 09:41 PM

I actually went out tonite and unloaded "Christine" from the trailer. Didn't get any pictures though. She is pretty rough!
Funny you say that! when I left work today I was going to call you and come over but I call from home and I needed to get home.
I will try to get over soon and check it out.
