Hey guys, found the cable for the camera, took pics, downloaded pics, shrunk pics so i can hopefully download them here. This is my mutt 108. She has a 126 rear end, as you can see by the serial numbers. Used her to mow the lawn this past summer, bought a blade and wheel weights to plow in the winter. I think the clutch is going. When i plow with her, and i push snow up against a snowbank and come to a stop because of the snowbank, i have to depress the clutch pedal a couple of times to get her in neutral. No other problems with the clutch, only when i come to a stop against a snow bank. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any help would be much appreciated.

Great looking 108, ya have there!

TommyK 02-17-2011 12:02 AM

Thanks ACecil! Poor girl had what i believe was the original air filter still in her when i bought her, so just changing the filter gave her new life. Oil didn't look too good either, changed it once already, i plan on changing it again soon. I also have a gallon of hytran for a drain and fill in the spring. Gotta take care of that yellow paint on the front end as well. Air filter cover is supposed to be yellow too.

Anytime Tommy! Your 108 has a replacement engine, so the air cleaner is supposed to be black. The original yellow engine had the yellow air cleaner. :beerchug:

Sweet looking 108!

Have you pulled the clutch to see if the throwout bearing and teaser spring is broken? I'm jsut trying to give you a place to start someone else might have the answer for you.

Hi, TommyK. Nice looking 108? I have one built 11/71. Did the PO put the 108 Serial #s on the frame (from the old rear axle). Also, looked up the axle #s, and (if I read correctly) they show to be a 126. Frame #s i could make out are 2050043U529111. Axle #s 2050039U324000. Axle showes bulid date 1/70. Frame #s show build date 10/74. Not trying to stir up anything, just don't understand #s on Frame on a 108. I have a 48" deck and love mowing with it. Have a good day.

I can't answer the serial # on the frame but he did state that it does have a 126 axle in it.

108cubber 02-17-2011 07:31 AM

Yeah, I was just trying to be sure that I read the #s right off the pics. The frame #s almost look factory installed, so someone did a good job of putting them there. Looks to be a location of later model #s. Wonder if the frame is a later model and PO put the original 108 #s there to fill the holes? Anyway, looks to be a keeper. Have fun with it, TommyK.

Thanks everyone! Havent' had much time to play with her lately, but i know i have to take a look at the clutch. Thanks for the starting point Duke. i'm sure i'll be looking for help when i take her apart. Kenny, you are correct with the dates for the 126 rear end and the 108 frame. Wanted to share that with everyone, thought it was interesting. I was wondering if anyone had seen wheel weights like those? Cub cadet 75#'s. I was looking for cast iron, but couldn't pass those up.

ACecil 02-17-2011 11:46 AM

The later wide frames had the serial number tag on the left side of the frame. I had a 1974 128, and it had the tag there. :beerchug:

On the 1X8/1X9 series, the later ones had the serial number plates on the left side of the frame like the picture. I can't remember off the top of my head when they switched from the rear axle to the frame. The 529111 serial number is I assume the original number for the 108, making it a late one. One of the last serial numbers for this series before the quietlines is around 529700 IIRC. The kind code before the actual serial number will state the 108 model. The number on the rear axle would be original to the 126 since the rear is from a 126. Can tell from the shape of the shifter, too. My 129 has the serial on the rear axle and my 149 and 169 have them on the frame. Nice 108 ya have. I too love the look of the ags and weights on the back. These things sure move snow, too.:beerchug:

TommyK 02-17-2011 02:29 PM

Those are brand new Tru powers. I bought them and the weights because i have a pretty steep hill to go up in my backyard, to reach the level area i mow. Had to have the weights to use the blade as well, i'm gonna try to move some dirt this spring with her.
I'm wondering, can i use my 108 manual to work on the clutch, since it's a 126? When i looked up the serial numbers at cubcadet.com, the diagram for the clutch on a 126 looked very similar to the clutch on a 108. Thanks

Great looking 108 Tommy, sounds like a throwout bearing issue to me..I have the same problem with a couple of my gear drives.

I also have the same wheel weights on my 1211..the added 75# per wheel really helps.

TommyK 02-18-2011 11:02 AM

Thanks Wild Bill. That's what i thought. thetucks post and pictures are a big help as well. I'm getting the itch to take her apart. I'll post pixs too. If it's bad, i hope Mark Hellrung has complete clutch assembly's for wide frames too.
