New to me 125 with Tiller
I picked up the 125 today and as soon as I got it loaded up they guy is trying to buy it back!:bigthink: After about 4-5 mins it just stops running. If I wait about 20 mins it fires right up until it goes for 4-5 more mins. Thinking fuel/carb related. It's like someone turns the key off, doesn't seem to be choke related. My game plan is new autolite 216, rebuild the carb, condenser, and check the coil.
I know what you all want :WWP: |
I am going to say coil. Sounds a lot like how my 1250 ran on a bad coil.
|
Looks good Duke, I say coil to. I'm tring to figure out why you didn't sell it back, :HeadScratch: LOL!
|
General consensus is the coil, but don't forget about that little hole in the gas cap!!
|
Looks good! I was watching it also. Glad someone here got it. I need to make a trip down to met you since you are so close. I have yet to find anyone around here that are into the cubs. There is one older guy but he isn't into them the same way as most. He has a lot of them but doesn't know much about them. I have bought some parts but he is a little steep. Nice man though.

Great looking 125! Was it on ebay?
|
Ok, well I'm going to go out on a limb here and say its the tire pressure in the rear tires.:biggrin2::biggrin2:.......just funnin'. It might be also be something as easy as a particle clogging the fuel line. Glad you got that one. Let me know if you are parting out that tiller or if you just want to get rid of that belt shield......seems like I could use one!!!

My friend was talking like he wanted the 125 to mow with but it seems he's gotten cold feet now that I've picked it up so not sure what I'm going to do with it. I'm going to put my 44" mower deck on it and show it to him then maybe he'll change his mind. If I didn't have plans to buy a 149 with a freshly rebuilt 0.10 over motor I might be temped to keep it, but space is tight in the garage. And thanks to Jude I've got the I need a O bug pretty bad, so really trying to get one of those before I would keep this one. |
Before you go tearing the carb apart, try a can of PB Tune-up-in-a-can. I know it sounds like a line, but that stuff works! If it doesn't work, then you can be pretty sure you need to overhaul the carb...either that or it's a completely different problem, like the coil overheating.
|
Nice find Methos.....i'm going with the bad coil theory....don't hold on to the 125 to long...it will grow on you. I bought mine 6 years ago for the snowblower that came with it....plans were to sell the 125...just kinda grew on me...be careful...it could happen to you...

Nice find, Duke!
I can help you remove those wheel weights and load them on my truck when I come to see you. You don't want those ugly things on there, right?! :biggrin2: |
Metalrain yours looks nice too even with all that white stuff around them.:biggrin2: If I didn't have the 149 lined up I'd think about it, but space in the garage is limited so not going to be able to keep it. Going to try the coil off my 122 tonight and see how it does then.

Steve, pm me if you're looking for in weights. I may have a pair for ya. |
That 125 looks nice, most likely a coil causing your problem.

I got a chance to change the coil, condenser, spark plug and spark plug wire off my 122 to the 125. I took the gas cap off completly. No change in how it ran so I took the carb bowl off and only had little bit of gas in it. Checked to make sure the valve was open, and it was so I've got a fuel supply problem. It got dark so I'll have to pull the gas tank and check it out tomorrow.
|
I thought that is what it sounded like, a clogged fuel line.....but there could literally be dozens of things that would be problematic not allowing it to run. Let us know when you get it going. I wish I had been in that locale....it is a really nice setup. When I saw it on E-bay, I couldn't believe the list price. Glad that you read my post and are happy with your purchase!!! BTW.....For my two cents worth, I think that you will keep the 125 or your buddy will try to talk you into selling it to him once it is up and running!!!

I was really happy to get some seat time riding it around the yard today. I was able to show off to my son and tick my wife off at the same time.:biggrin2: He loved the wheelies I was able to pop with the tiller on the back and she was :censored::Choke: over the wheelies I was poping.:biggrin2: Nice machine wish I had room to keep it but only got room for 4 in garage so not much I can do about it unless I sell something else and umm really don't want to do that. Looks like I need to change my sig! After being tested out by my son Evan he has told me to add it to my sig line and to make room for it in the garage! Being the great father that I am I will do as told! The wife has been training me well!:biggrin2:
Just to make sure I had to call in a cub expert to make sure that it was worthy of such a honor. Being the expert that he is the 1200 needed testing as well. Not to be out done Evan had to do his own testing of the 1200 to make sure that he agreed with the expert feedback. |
Awesome pics, Duke! Had a great time, visiting with you and your family! I wish, I was a cub expert...lol.
